Most property owners in wildfire-prone areas have access to general guidance about defensible space and structure hardening. What they lack is a managed process for turning that guidance into completed improvements—with a defined scope, coordinated trades, and documentation that the work was done.
PRG provides that process. We assess the property, develop a prioritized improvement plan aligned with applicable wildfire-mitigation guidance and local requirements, coordinate the appropriate trade partners, and document completion against the approved scope.
Defensible Space
Understanding the zones.
Terminology and requirements vary by jurisdiction. PRG develops recommendations using applicable local requirements and recognized wildfire-mitigation guidance.
Immediate Zone
The area immediately surrounding the structure. Ember accumulation, combustible materials, and structural vulnerabilities in this zone are the primary cause of structure ignition. Hardening measures here have the greatest impact on survivability.
Intermediate Zone
Lean, clean, and green. Vegetation should be well-irrigated, spaced, and free of dead material. Combustible materials should be removed or relocated away from the structure.
Extended Zone
Reduce fuel continuity. Vegetation should be spaced to slow fire spread and reduce the potential for fire to reach the Intermediate Zone. Requirements and extent vary by jurisdiction and site conditions.
